BRIDGEPORT -- A man died early Monday when a fire broke out in a ninth-floor apartment at 2370 North Ave., officials said.
The man was identified as Jay Flaxman by the Fire Department. He lived in unit 9A.
Flaxman was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center, where he was declared dead. An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday at the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner to determine the official cause of Flaxman's death.
The Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze about 1 a.m., and quickly knocked down the fire. A ladder truck was used to gain access to the apartment.
A few residents, mostly on the ninth and 10th floors, left the building for a time, but later returned to their apartments. The high-rise is at North and Colorado avenues.
State and city arson investigation teams were at the scene of the blaze.
