Memorial Friday for police dog Zak

A memorial service for Zak, a Stratford Police dog, will be held Friday, Jan. 8, in the auditorium at the Birdseye Municipal Complex, 488 Birdseye St.

Doors open at 12:30 p.m. The ceremony will begin at 1 o’clock.

The ceremony is oepn to all, and retired K9 handlers and their partners are specifically invited. Questions about the service can be directed to Lt. Celeste Robitaille at 203-385-4159.

Prior to the service, Zak’s  “Last Ride” procession, with many representative police K9 vehicles, will begin at Stratford Police Headquarters and wind through town, terminating at the service.

Zak, who was nearly 8 years old, died Dec. 12 while he was exercising. He was on duty at the time with his partner, Officer Thomas Clements.

Donations in memory of Zak will be used to obtain and train another police dogs. Contributions
