Police promote four officers

Four Stratford police officers were promoted during a ceremony Tuesday, Dec. 15, in Council Chambers at Town Hall.

All four elevations in rank took effect Dec. 7.

Capt. Alan V. Wilcoxson

Alan V. Wilcoxson was promoted from lieutenant to captain.

Wilcoxson was born in New Haven, raised in Stratford and graduated from Bunnell High School in 1982.

He was an All-America athlete at St. John’s University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in toxicology. He also holds master’s degrees in political science, military science and strategic studies.

Upon graduation he immediately began serving as a second lieutenant in the United States Army. He served six years on active duty before transitioning into the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Military awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and two Air Medals for Valor. He served in Operation Desert Storm, and most recently, in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Wilcoxson was hired by the Stratford Police Department in 1993. During his tenure as a policeman he has served as a bicycle patrol officer and chief pilot for the Eagle One police helicopter, based in Fairfield.

His police awards include three meritorious arrest awards and two police commendation awards, as well as special recognition from Gov. M. Jodi Rell for flying during Hurricane Katrina relief efforts with Det. Paul Honafius in Eagle One in 2005.

Wilcoxson was promoted to sergeant in 1998 and lieutenant in 2005.

He is a colonel in the Connecticut Army National Guard, and serves as a helicopter pilot and commander of the 1109th Aviation Classification and Repair Depot in Groton.

His wife, Lynn, who pinned on his new badge at the ceremony, has been a teacher in Stratford for 21 years.

They have two daughters, Katie and Megan.

Alan’s brother, Fred, is a sergeant in the Stratford Police Department.

Lt. Maurice Scioletti

Maurice “Mo” Scioletti, promoted from sergeant to lieutenant, was born in Bridgeport and raised in Stratford. He attended local schools and is a 1984 graduate of Stratford High School.

Scioletti was hired by the Stratford Police Department in Feb. 1989. He was assigned to the Patrol Division, where he worked on the overnight shift for the next 17 years.

He was promoted to sergeant in 2006 and served as a supervisor on both the overnight and day shifts.

From January to June 2009 he was a supervisor in the Community Services Division.

In July, Scioletti was appointed acting lieutenant. He has since been a shift commander in the Patrol Division and briefly was the officer in charge of the Traffic and Community Services Division.

He is now overnight shift commander in Patrol.

Scioletti has been active in the Stratford community throughout his life, serving for many years as an assistant baseball coach with Post 42 Stratford American Legion Baseball Club.

Scioletti’s new badge was pinned on by his wife, Pamela, assisted by their son, Maurice Jr.

Sgt. Thaddeus Walewski

Thaddeus “Ted” Walewski, promoted to sergeant, was born and raised Stratford and is a 1983 graduate of Bunnell High School.

He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement administration from the University of New Haven.

Walewski was hired by the Stratford Police Department in May 1986 and was assigned to the Patrol Division, where he worked for the next 13 years.

He was promoted to detective in Jan., 1999, investigating computer crimes and financial crimes. He served in both the Youth Bureau and the General Investigations Division.

Walewski is an instructor and former member of the K-9 Unit, and former sniper for the department’s Special Response Team.

Walewski has served as an acting sergeant since April, 2008. He is supervisor on the overnight shift in Patrol.

Walewski’s badge was pinned on by his daughter, Sarah.


Det. Louis Alexander

New detective Louis “Lou” Alexander was born in San Francisco, Calif., and lived in Washington and Illinois before coming to Connecticut.

He graduated from Staples High School in Westport, then attended Curry College in Boston.

Alexander was hired by the Stratford Police Department in Feb., 2004. During his four years in the Patrol Division he served as a field training officer.

He has been an acting detective in the Detective Bureau since June, 2008.

Alexander resides in Fairfield with his wife, Kathy, and son, Michael, who pinned on his father’s new badge.
