Guilford’s ‘Best’ Take the Oath

With the New Haven County Firefighters Emerald Society’s pipe and drum music floating through the air, five new career firefighters were sworn in this month as the newest members of the Guilford Fire Department (GFD).
The new officers are Matthew Nolan, Steven LaPaglia, John Planas, John Moffat, and Kyle Winters.
“We have the best and we’ve hired the best,” said Board of Fire Commissioners chairman Joseph Travaglino at the ceremony.
This brings the total of career firefighters, including the chief and assistant chiefs, to 24 members. Volunteer members of the GFD vary, ranging from 22 active to a total of 60.
