West Haven News Staff report 12/12/2008
WEST HAVEN - The West Haven Police Department appointed Officer Kimberly DeMayo to the force Friday, Dec. 5, bringing the department up to full staffing. Officer DeMayo, who was already a certified police officer in Connecticut, will participate in a modified field training program before patrolling on her own.
The department also announced that Officers Joseph D'Amato, Matthew Jordan, and Jonathan Healey graduated from the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden Wednesday, Dec. 3, after completing 21 weeks of basic recruit training. D'Amato and Jordan received an award for attaining perfect marksmanship scores during all of their three qualifying relays. Each relay is a 60 round course where the police recruit will shoot at targets from different distances. These two officers were then privileged to wear a gold colored ball cap, only given to those who scored perfectly on an additional 4th relay. These officers are now assigned to a field training officer for a 10 week minimum field training program before they are allowed to patrol by themselves.
Chief Ronald M. Quagliani said that "Officer DeMayo joins 13 other female officers within the department. Officers D'Amato, Jordan, Healey and DeMayo will complement a highly talented and dedicated police force."
"The West Haven Police Department is a perfect fit due to our size and many opportunities here. It's rewarding to know that we regularly have applications from officers wishing to transfer to our department as well as those who are looking to start out in their career," Chief Quagliani said.
Although the department is currently at full staff, applications are accepted on an on-going basis.
