MADISON-Thomas Bull has been sworn in as the newest member of the Madison Police Department and completed his first day of field training Friday. A Madison resident, Bull had retired from the Environmental Conservation Police of the state Dept. of Environmental Protection, where he attained the rank of sergeant. "He's had an extraordinarily great career," said Acting Police Chief Robert Nolan. "He's known by most all the officers here and is respected by them. Their (DEP's) loss is our gain." The area Bull policed included Hammonasset State Park, where he often worked with members of the Madison Police Department. "In his capacity as a DEP officer, he's always been a great asset to our department," said Madison Police Lt. Robert Stimpson. EnCon Police are certified as police officers by the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council, and conservation officers are required to complete the same police academy training as municipal police officers, so Bull will only have to complete two to three weeks of field training before he becomes a full member of the Madison Police Department.
