The Darien Police Department (DPD) recognized the efforts of two of its policemen this week in a ceremony at Town Hall. Jeremiah Johnson and Raymond Osborne were promoted to sergeant and lieutenant, respectively.
Johnson was hired on Feb 26, 2002. Prior to joining the DPD he was a ninth grade history teacher and residential dormitory supervisor at the Kildonan School in Amenia, N.Y.
Johnson grew up in Boulder, Colo., and currently lives in Bethel with his wife Nadia and two children. He is a former Eagle Scout and former member of the U.S. Army Reserves.
He has a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Geneva College, a master's degree in justice administration from Western Connecticut State University and is currently working on a Ph.D. in criminal justice at John Jay College.
Johnson has been one of the department's field training officers for the past three years and is a member of the Department's Scheduling Committee.
He is currently working on the Department's accreditation project which, when completed, will result in the Darien Police Department having Tier 1 and Tier 2 State of Connecticut Accreditation.
Osborne was hired on Dec 4, 1983. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant on Sept. 8, 2000, and was assigned to the Detective Division. Prior to joining the DPD, he was a police officer with the Easton Police Department.
Osborne grew up in the Norwalk/Wilton area and currently lives in Monroe with his wife Susan and three children. He has an associate's degree in criminal justice from Norwalk Community College, a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from Iona College and a master's degree in criminal justice from Iona College.
He is currently a member of the adjunct faculty of Housatonic Community College where he teaches in the Criminal Justice Department.
Osborne was a detective in the Detective Division from January 1997 to September 2000. He then served approximately four years as acting lieutenant in the Patrol Division and then returned to the Detective Division.
He has been a member of the department's Traffic Accident Investigation Team for approximately 15 years and was a a member of the Scuba Team for approximately 10 years.
He attended the Fairfield County Detectives Conference School and is currently a member of the Fairfield County Detectives Conference and International Association of Identification.
Osborne is an FBI-trained hostage negotiator. He is a former member of the Fairfield County Regional Burglary Squad. In 1994 he received a special recognition award from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers for leading the Department in DWI arrests.
