MADISON The court case against a police officer charged with several motor vehicle violations was continued Wednesday to next week.
Ernest J. Boggs Jr. was charged with operation of an unregistered motor vehicle, an infraction, and misuse of a plate and theft of a plate, both misdemeanors.
Boggs has yet to enter a plea. He is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in New Haven Aug. 15.
He was arrested in July, the latest in a string of local cops implicated in wrongdoing.
The charges apparently stem from an incident when Boggs allegedly purchased a vehicle months ago, and persuaded its former owner to let him keep the plate, telling the woman he would soon register the car and return the plate.
He allegedly failed to return the plate, and when the former owner saw him driving the car, she called police.
Boggs has not been suspended and he does not currently face administrative charges.
