To the editor:
As a resident of the Turn of River Volunteer Fire Department district all my life, who has had many relatives involved with the department, I am appalled at the turn of events that has transpired after all the years of complete coverage, concern and safety for residents in the district.
The animosity and ill feelings this mayor and his cohorts have caused with the Stamford volunteer fire departments are truly a disgrace.
How can the city claim it is going to save money after a fully equipped, livable trailer and a Stamford Fire & Rescue Department engine are set up on Vine Road, as well as other facilities on Long Ridge Road? All this ignores two original, completely equipped fire stations.
If a homeowner in this area were to set up a livable trailer on his or her property in this district, it would be against zoning regulations. Hmm!
What is going to happen to these stations and equipment when not enough money is being allocated to keep them operable? Are they going to be left to deteriorate and then cost more to rehabilitate?
All this to save money! Wake up, taxpayers in the city of Stamford!
