Cunningham becomes assistant chief

Officials at the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department have promoted T. John Cunningham to the position of assistant fire chief. Assistant Chief Cunningham has been with the department for more than a decade and previously held the positions of lieutenant and captain.

In this new position, Assistant Chief Cunningham will be responsible for assisting the district chief in overseeing the daily operations of the department, including personnel, equipment, purchasing, public relations, and emergency operations.

He is also a member of the department’s Technical Rescue and Scuba Team.
Most recently, he was credited with assisting the department in receiving almost $100,000 in federal grant money through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

Assistant Chief Cunningham has a bachelor of science degree in business management from Fairfield University and is looking to pursue a master’s degree in homeland security and emergency management within the next year. He is a certified fire officer and instructor, and a longtime member of the Connecticut Urban Search and Rescue Team (CT-TF1).

He is a lifelong Greenwich resident and is self-employed as an IT consultant and ID/security solutions specialist.
