Police car stolen during Southport station fire
By: Audrey Adade , News Reporter
Fairfield police said there was unusual activity in the area of the Metro North Southport Station, Friday, within a half an hour after emergency crews arrived at the scene of the fire.

Lieutenant Michael Walsh of the Fairfield Police Department said police are investigating any suspicious activity that might be correlated to the fire, one of which was the loss of a police car, which was discovered in the 900 block of Post Road East in Westport 15 minutes after police arrived on the scene of the fire.

Walsh said the police car was used to divert traffic and to act as a safety barrier on the northbound side of Center Street, at the entrance of the train station. The officer left the car with its emergency flashers on, while assisting the fire department. When he returned the car was stolen.

Walsh said, however, there is no correlation at this time between the activity and the fire.

"Whether there was a correlation between the stolen car and the fire is left to be determined, it is under investigation," Walsh said.
