Police Lt. Thomas Cummings is being investigated by the State's Attorney's Office for the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy from Weston.

Cummings, who is the head of the Detective Bureau and a 24-year veteran of the Police Department, is on leave while the investigation continues.

The teen is accusing Cummings of sexually assaulting him after meeting him on an adult gay Web site, www.manhunt.net.

"This will not go uninvestigated, and we will do everything we need to do to get the facts and take appropriate action," Police Chief Harry Rilling said in a telephone interview Tuesday.

Rilling said there is no indication that Cummings was on duty or used his position with the department to take advantage of the boy.

Rilling said Capt. Rosemary Arway, the head of the Investigative Services Division, will lead the Detective Bureau while the investigation unfolds.

Stamford Senior Assistant State's Attorney Richard Colangelo Jr., who is leading the investigation, could not be reached for comment, nor could State's Attorney David I. Cohen.

Cummings' Norwalk home, where the incident allegedly occurred, was searched approximately two weeks ago, and his computer was seized, as was his department hard drive.

The front page of www.manhunt.net states that all of the photos and images on the Web site are of men at least 18 years of age.

"All members have contractually represented to us that they are 18 years of age or older," it continues. "Photos are posted by members and posted solely for the purpose of meeting other men."
