| I have resided in East Lyme for the past 40 years and have been involved in some form of public safety for the past 25 years, both as a member and chief of the Flanders Fire Department and as a constable for the town's police department. Three or four years ago I supported the proposed sharing of a public safety building with the National Guard; however, I did not support the proposed location for a variety of reasons. For the last two years, I was involved in the newest proposed public safety complex, adding my concepts and ideas as a public spectator, as did others. I just can't understand why some people in this town can't envision the future, but maybe those are the same people who want to save a penny today to spend the dime tomorrow. The bipartisan Building Committee has been tirelessly working on a facility that would benefit the town as a whole, not just themselves or their political party. So, to all the citizens of East Lyme, please think as the Building Committee did, think of the future, think of the over-crowded Emergency Operations Center last week during the flooding, think of the Fire Marshal's Office without any more room to look over building plans, or think about the hazardous materials rail car parked behind the police department. Please take a minute to become an informed voter, don't just vote the party line because you're a Democrat or a Republican. James Levandoski |
