| BRIDGEPORT An attic bedroom fire that may have been sparked by an electrical short, forced seven men to move from a multi-family home Monday evening. Three brothers lived in the second-floor apartment and three other brothers and an unrelated man lived in the first-floor apartment of the house at 115 Maple St., said provisional Assistant Fire Chief Ismael A. Pomales. Fire damage was confined to the attic, Pomales said. But the apartments on both floors suffered smoke and water damage, he added. Because of damage to the units, all seven had to seek alternate accommodations with relatives, Pomales said. "We had flames shooting out 10 to 15 feet" from the attic window, he said. The electricity to the house had to be shut off because firefighters were concerned the cause was likely electrical, Pomales said. The fire, reported at 5:37 p.m., was under control in about 20 minutes, the assistant chief said. AARON LEO |
