Letters To The Editor:
East Lyme First Selectman Wayne Fraser has demonstrated leadership in finding short- and long-term solutions for a new police department. Fraser has worked to find an interim location that would provide the police with necessary improvements. During this search, Mr. Fraser worked with Dominion Nuclear Power to lease the Millstone Educational Building on Main Street for $1 with an option to buy.
The Board of Selectman approved using the building as a provisional location until a new public safety complex is built. Fraser's opponent voted against the measure even though she has admitted the conditions at the current station are deplorable. Her reason was the fear of losing public support to fund a new building. To me, keeping the police in deplorable conditions in order to keep the public sympathetic is insincere and shows a lack of concern.
The police deserve the best facilities that we can offer. This new location with high visibility will provide visitors with a better sense of security while they shop in our downtown district and walk our boardwalk.
