Fund-raiser To Help Firefighter Get New Liver

New London— The Port 'N Starboard restaurant at Ocean Beach Park will host a fund-raiser at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 to help New London firefighter Brendan McGuirk pay for liver transplant surgery.

McGuirk had tumors in his liver and needed an organ transplant to survive. Donations collected at the event will help his family with their out-of-pocket expenses associated with the surgery. The medication he has needed since the surgery costs about $3,000 per month.

The fund-raiser will be an all-you-can-eat pasta buffet with an auction led by Jeff Mullen starting at 8 p.m. Following the auction there will be music and dancing with The Munsell Brothers Band. The event will also include a cash bar.

The suggested donation for the event is $25 per person. Checks can be made payable to: Friends of Brendan McGuirk. Those unable to attend the fund-raiser are encouraged to send a cash donation or to contribute an item for the auction. For tickets or information, call Ocean Beach Park at 447-3031 extension 110.
