Voters will act on four items at a special town meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Town Hall.
The first item is whether to appropriate $3.5 million to extend the town's sewer system to the Pine Grove neighborhood. The town would issue bonds to fund the project.
The extension would provide sewer lines to 172 houses on a 36-acre peninsula surrounded by the Niantic River and Smith Cove. A water main would be replaced and roads would be improved during the project. Pine Grove residents would be responsible for 61 percent of the cost while town and state grants would pay for 39 percent.
The second item is for a special appropriation of $500,000 for construction of the Hole in the Wall parking lot, utility building, sidewalks and other improvements. The Board of Selectmen voted last month to accept a $500,000 state grant through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program for the project.
The final two items involve the release of funds from the town's Capital Nonrecurring Expenditure Accounts. One calls for the release of $575,000 to purchase a ladder truck and make facility modifications for the Niantic Fire Department. The second seeks the release of $69,236 for projects at the Lillie B. Haynes Elementary School.
