Firefighter's funeral today in Groton City
Published on 6/29/2000
Groton Firefighters from across the region will gather in the city this morning for the funeral of longtime city firefighter Capt. Whitney C. Teehan Jr., who died of a heart attack early Sunday while on a fire call at Electric Boat. He was 66.
A firemans memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. at Byles Memorial Home on Thames Street. At 10:45, a motorcade will leave the funeral home and travel south on Thames Street to Eastern Point Road and past the Eastern Point firehouse, where Teehan volunteered for 48 years. The motorcade then will follow Plant Street, turn north on Shennecossett Road, pass the firehouse again, and travel north on Benham Road.
The motorcade will stop at the Five Corners intersection at Mitchell Street, and city firefighters will form marching lines. The city police color guard then will lead the procession north on Mitchell Street to the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery.
Police will stop traffic along the route. Parking will be available at Sacred Heart Church and Washington Park.
