The officers and members of the Westbrook Chemical Engine Company No. 1 held an Open House at the North End Fire Station on West Pond Meadow Road in Westbrook on May 21. More than 100 residents visited the new station, which was built to address the construction of many new homes in the north end of town. The new facility puts every home within three miles of a firehouse.

The satellite firehouse, which has been in the works for more than two years, is a single-story, four-bay, 2,800-sq. ft. structure. It houses an office and training area, a unisex restroom and a storage area. The bay area holds an engine, a 3,000-gallon tanker, a brush/medical response unit and a hazardous material trailer. The building will be used for training, self-contained breathing apparatus repair and maintenance and hazmat training.

The open house featured refreshments, door prizes and a demonstration of the fire equipment. Winners of the door prizes were Jessica Boudreau, Sarah Conklin and Jack Hartley.
